This describes what Independent Driver collects, why it is collected, and who else sees it. It is written to match what the software actually does.
What is collected
When you use the service as a client:
- Your email address, to sign you in and to send you confirmations and receipts.
- Your mobile number, required before your first booking, because a driver needs a way to reach you on the day. It is also used to text you about your own rides: confirmations, changes, invoices and receipts. Reply STOP to any text to stop them.
- Ride details — pickup and drop-off addresses, the date and time, how long you booked, number of passengers, bags, extra stops, a flight number if you give one, and any note you add for the driver.
- Your booking history, including prices, the cancellation terms the booking was sold under, and its outcome.
- Messages you send your driver through the app.
- A push subscription, only if you turn on notifications. You can revoke it in your browser at any time.
Drivers additionally provide the details on their own booking page — name, vehicle, hours, service area, rates and any logo they upload.
What is not collected
- No card or bank details. The service does not currently take payment online, and no payment credentials are stored on it. When card payment is introduced it will run through a dedicated payment processor, and this page will say so before it does.
- No location tracking. The app does not request or record your device’s location, and it does not follow a ride in progress. The only places it knows are the addresses you type.
- No advertising, no analytics, no third-party trackers. The only cookies set are the ones that keep you signed in.
Who else sees it
Your driver sees what they need to do the job: your name, your mobile number, your ride details and your messages. Drivers see only their own clients, never another driver’s.
These companies process data on our behalf:
- Supabase — accounts, database and sign-in email. Data is held in the United States.
- Vercel — hosting, and the server logs that come with it.
- Resend — delivers the emails the service sends you.
- Google Maps Platform — address suggestions as you type, and a one-off lookup of your pickup address to check it is inside the service area. That lookup returns coordinates which are used for the check and then discarded; they are not stored on your booking.
Nothing is sold, and nothing is shared for advertising. Data is disclosed otherwise only where the law requires it.
Your mobile number, and your consent to receive texts, are never shared with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes.
How long it is kept
Booking records are kept for as long as the account exists, because both you and your driver may need the history of what was agreed and paid. Messages are kept alongside the booking they belong to. Push subscriptions are deleted as soon as they stop working.
Your choices
- See or correct your details — your bookings and profile are visible in the app when you are signed in.
- Turn off notifications — revoke the permission in your browser, and the subscription stops being used.
- Delete your account — ask, and we will remove your profile and contact details. Records of completed bookings may be kept where they are needed for tax or accounting, with contact details removed.
Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit. Access to your records is enforced in the database itself rather than only in the app: a signed-in person can read their own bookings and messages and nobody else’s. No client of the app can write to a price or payment field — those changes are made only by the server.
Children
The service is not intended for anyone under 18 and accounts are not knowingly created for them.
Changes
If what is collected changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves.
